My Week...

My week has been very . . . unexpected. I guess that's the best word for it. I had an idea of what I wanted to happen and what I thought should happen, but I was off somewhere. I guess Someone had other ideas.

I just had a few of those days when things happened that weren't supposed to happen. I hadn't planned for them; I didn't see them coming; they weren't supposed to go that way. And then I ask myself, "How often has your life ever really gone how you thought it was supposed to go?" To which, I'd have to answer, "Probably once."

There have been many times in my life that I felt like not only was I on a roller coaster but that coaster was way off track. I had my eyes focused somewhere when suddenly my life turned so quickly, I almost broke my neck. Honestly, I hate it when it happens. I start to feel like I could have done better; I should have been stronger or braver or more prepared. I feel like something must be wrong because my week wasn't what it should have been. But I'm starting to see that I've got it all wrong.

In every priesthood blessing I've gotten recently, the Lord has repeatedly told me that He loves me. And it's during weeks like this one that I really believe Him. That may seem backwards. You might ask, "Why would you love Him more when He let's crazy stuff happen to you?" But I know that He loves me because He allows me to do hard things. If I always had the easy way out, I'd never know what I'm capable of. I can do hard things. I can sacrifice for others and not feel less myself. I can be obedient even under pressure. I can remain calm, stand tall, take it in stride, breathe easy, be at peace - I can be like Him.

I love my Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, and I know that They love me - especially during weeks like this week. Not because They take all my burdens away, but because They help me carry them and love me despite them.
